There has been a significant increase in the number of drunkenness offences across Leitrim in the last month.
The first Joint Policing Meeting of the year heard that 7 offences of this nature occurred in January, a rise from just 2 during the same month last year.
Figures presented by Gardai at the meeting yesterday also revealed a rise in the number of Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints in the county with 53 carried out so far this year.
Four people were found to be driving while intoxicated while eight people were involved in public order offences this month.
Burglaries were also on the rise with 4 so far in January compared to just 1 this time last year.
