There's been a significant increase in the number of residential planning permissions approved in the Shannonside region over the last two years. New figures from the CSO show the number of applications approved, the type of homes and the county in where they were given the green light. Just under 400 residential planning permissions were given the go ahead last year in Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon. That's a jump of 60 when compared to the figures from 2023.
Leitrim saw the largest jump in successful planning applications with permissions growing from 93 in 2023 to 132 last year. That's followed by a increase of 11 in Roscommon where 177 residential planning permissions were cleared in 2024. Just behind Roscommon, Longford County Planners approved 10 more home planning applications in 2024 than in 2023. The total amount of granted permissions in Longford in 2024 was 90. The units receiving the green light consisted of single homes, housing developments and apartment blocks.
