The CEO of the Midlands Simon Community says the organisation is seeing a new trend of homelessness and sleeping rough in the region over recent months.
Tony O' Riordain was commenting in the wake of the latest Daft.ie report which shows rents continuing to rise across the country.
Midlands Simon was set up in 2003 to support individuals, couples and families at risk of homelessness across Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly.
The CEO of the midlands charity says their 12 emergency beds for the region aren't enough to cope with the crisis in recent months, and they've handed out sleeping Bags and tents to over 50 people across the counties in the first three months of this year.
''Longford, in itself isn't the county which has high numbers, the other Midland counties we're seeing they met over 50 people in quarter one of this year that were rough sleeping at one stage of the first three months of this year, the new trends and that, unfortunately is not something that we would have encountered when Midland Simon was first established, and we would have given out over 50 sleeping bags over 50 tents, and that's something that we weren't doing and we are consistently now every quarter we're meeting in person, at least 30 people that are sleeping rough.''
