Inland Fisheries Ireland is appealing to people who see or suspect nets are being dropped into Shannonside Northern Sound waterways to report it.
In September, staff in Roscommon seized 10 large double-ended fyke nets at various locations in Lough Ree and the River Shannon.
The nets in the Shannon were in the water for a period of time; some live eels were released and there was some dead and disintegrating fish.
Inland Fisheries Ireland has a confidential hotline number to enable members of the public to report incidents of water pollution, illegal fishing and fish kills -1890 34 74 24 1890 FISH 24.
IFI Inspector in the Upper Shannon, Oisin Naughten says it's not just eels that are captured.
