Inland Fisheries Ireland is warning anglers that it is carrying out patrols in the region to monitor any breaches of legislation.
Earlier this month the IFI issued a fixed penalty notice after the seizure of fishing equipment and pike while on patrol on the River Suck at Ballyforan in Roscommon
An individual was fined under the Conservation of Pike Bye-law while a similar incident was also reported in Banagher in Offaly where a fine was issued for the possession of more than one pike and the fish and fishing equipment was seized.
A fixed charge penalty notice was also issued for the possession of a pike larger than 50cm and the fish and fishing equipment was seized.
The IFI is asking anglers to familiarize themselves of all regulations/legislation before entering any waters for the purpose of angling.
