A 54-year-old Leitrim woman who died following a house fire in Ballinamore almost 2 years ago, died as a result of smoke inhalation.
The inquest into the death took place at Leitrim Coroner's Court this week.
The woman lived alone at the property near Ballinamore before her death in September 2020.
According to evidence given before Sligo/Leitrim Coroner Fergal Kelly, neighbours had raised concerns about the woman, after she had not been seen around the property in over a week.
Her father along with her husband subsequently attended the property to check on the 54-year-old.
Following a short check of the property they were unable to locate the woman, leading to the Gardaí being contacted.
Two Gardaí on mobile patrol attended the scene and following a more in-depth search of the house, located her body.
The 54-year-old was found crouched behind an armchair in a sitting room badly damaged by fire and smoke.
A technical examination of the scene showed the fire originated on the arm of a couch, but was contained to the room due to the doors inside the house being closed.
The former nurse was found to have suffered severe smoke inhalation and second degree burns to her face, arms and legs.
Investigators put the fire as occurring between 2 and 3 days previous to the body being discovered.
A toxicology report found the deceased to have had an elevated level of alcohol in her system.
Coroner Fergal Kelly ruled her death as caused by carbon monoxide poisoning by way of smoke inhalation.
