The amount of money paid out in insurance claims by Longford County Council almost doubled last year.
A total of 47 claims, valued at nearly €448,000, were settled in 2022.
This jumped to 63 claims, valued at almost €878,000, in 2023.
These include claims for trips and slips on footpaths, and pothole damage to cars.
The money is paid by the council's insurers, Irish Public Bodies, on behalf of the local authority.
Former Longford councillor Gerry Warnock says the new figures are concerning.
