The Education of a nation and the role of The Edgeworths will be discussed at the upcoming Maria Edgeworth international conference early next month.
International speakers will discuss the development of the primary school system at the event, which will take place on May 5th at the St Mary's Community Campus in Edeworthstown.
The conference celebrates the 225th anniversary of the publication of Edgeworth’s Practical Education and the plans the Edgeworths had for the establishment of non-denominational schools in Ireland in 1799/1800.
The Maria Edgeworth Festival which runs from May 4th to 7th boasts a range of events and is supported by Longford County Council, Creative Longford and Longford Tourism.
Matt Farrell is encouraging people to register for the conference on May 5th.
'You can register on our website Maria Edgeworth center.com and one of our speakers is coming from Havard and there is a new found interest in Maria Edgeworths and Longford has great literacy history with Goldsmith and our new writers and Maria Edgeworths and Padraig Colin so I think we should celebrate it.'
