The Head of Marketing at Ireland West Airport in Knock says while they may be closing the facility today, they're still optimisitc for the months ahead.
The airport announced last month it would have to close from November 14th until December 13th as a result of Ryanair's decision to suspend commercial flights from it and other regional bases for that period.
It's the second time this year the airport had to close after shutting down for three months at the beginning of the pandemic.
Substantial government supports have been announced for regional airports over the last few months with an extra €6 million announced in recent days to meet operational costs.
Donal Healy says they're hoping this will be the last of the closures and that flights can get back to normal , especially between Ireland and the UK.
