The Leitrim branch of the Irish Catholic Association confirmed that they held a prayer meeting at the Allen Centre in Drumshanbo on Sunday afternoon.
Gardaí in Leitrim have launched an investigation following the event over the weekend.
Shannonside Northern Sound news understands the gathering was held at the Lough Allen Adventure Centre in Drumshanbo on Sunday afternoon, with locals reporting a large crowd in attendance.
New laws introduced last week could see people receive a fine of €127 or up to 6 months in prison for attending specified events in contravention of current health guidelines.
Following a complaint from a member of the public to An Garda Siochana, local Gardaí attended the scene and engaged with members of the group.
According to the Secretary of the Leitrim Branch, Sean Wynne, Gardaí requested that the meeting cease and those gathered disband, with the instruction complied with.
According to the group's statement, 'We live in an age of mass deception and we must all pray for those making these decisions.'
Leitrim Gardaí have confirmed that they engaged with those attending and will now prepare a file for the DPP over the breach of Covid-19 health regulations.
The Leitrim branch of the Irish Catholic Association say they have no further comment to make as they await the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
