Irish Rail has received planning permission to construct significant accessibility works at a local train station. Iarnród Éireann Infrastructure have lodged the planning permission for the works at Longford Train Station on the Convent Road.
The works include the construction of a M.I.A.S. structure, a hybrid assembly of different concrete and steel elements to enable better access for those with mobility difficulties. The structure would feature a pair of staircases, free standing lift shafts, support portals and a walkway, with plans also seeking the relocation of 14 car parking spaces and 1 EV charging point.
The works will take place under the curtilage of a number of protected structures, with all requirements from an appointed heritage officer to be complied with when necessary. The plans were approved following the submission of further information by Irish Rail and are subject to 9 planning conditions.
