Upgrading staff and rail services in Longford will pay a major financial dividend according to a local Councillor.
Peggy Nolan has called for increased staffing levels at the Station in Longford Town along with more services and infrastructure on the Dublin to Sligo route.
Parts of the station including toilets and indoor waiting areas were shut over last year due to staff shortages.
The Longford Fine Gael Councillor has argued that any upgrades or staff increases should be financially viable due to the high passenger numbers using the station for rail and bus travel.
Irish Rail are currently seeking planning permission for major accessibility works at the station, with a decision due in February.
