Irish Rail says more capacity on the train service between Dublin and Longford from early next year should resolve overcrowding issues on the service.
The agency says that since travel has increased over the past fortnight it has seen the 50% capacity reached on occasion at peak times.
Speaking at Carrick-on-Shannon this week Jane Cregan from Irish Rail says it's only when full capacity is allowed again that they'll be able to see how peoples travel patterns may have changed permanently as a result of Covid.
She says the addition of 41 new carriages which are due for delivery early next year will help on the Dublin to Longford service:
