Iarnród Eireann are appealing to local road users to keep safety in mind when at level crossings.
As part of European Safety Week, Irish Rail, Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority have been holding an information morning at three level crossings in the country, including one in Longford.
Members of the three services attended in Ballymahon this morning to speak to road users crossing the tracks.
The majority of level crossing incidents involve road vehicles colliding with crossing gates or barriers-resulting in damage to the crossing/barriers.
There are currently 902 level crossings on the rail network, with Iarnród Éireann working to eliminate as many level crossings as practicable.
