Irish Rail confirmed the deferred Connolly-Sligo service departed Edgeworthstown 109 minutes late after Gardaí were called.

It's now available for all intercity train bookings except the Dublin to Belfast line. 

From Tuesday, customers will no longer have to print their ticket from a machine at train stations, and can instead use their phones to get on board.

The line is closed in both directions until further notice and Irish Rail say they will provide an update in due course. 

Parts of the station including toilets and indoor waiting areas were shut at times over last year due to staff shortages.

The structure would feature a pair of staircases, free standing lift shafts, support portals and a walkway, with plans also seeking the relocation of 14 car parking spaces and 1 EV charging point.

Due to engineering works between Boyle and Sligo, some services will operate bus transfers between Carrick on Shannon and Sligo.

The new departure on the Dublin to Galway line will run on Fridays only.
