Irish Rural Link is launching a new project today titled "Connecting Communities with Peatlands".
The project was awarded funding from the National Just Transition Fund and is aimed at providing supports to community-led groups in the wider midlands regions including Longford, Roscommon, Westmeath, and Offaly, among others.
It's hoped that it can provide capacity-building training and workshops to community groups to develop projects with peatlands that are beneficial to their local areas and the environment.
The projects from local groups can range from information workshop, to carrying out citizen science, to creating a recreational amenity.
Seamus Boland is CEO with Irish Rural Link.
