The deployment of special forces to Afghanistan will speed-up the evacuation of Irish citizens, according to a former Brigadier General.
Nine members of the elite Army Ranger Wing will join two diplomats in arranging flights out of Kabul.
The force is currently en-route to Afghanistan via Paris, and is expected to arrive by Thursday.
