Irish unity is getting closer according to a local Sinn Fein TD.
Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny has been reacting to a new YouGov poll showing 43 percent of British people wouldn't be bothered if Northern Ireland left the UK.
40 per cent want Northern Ireland to remain part of the UK, but 34 per cent think it should join the Republic.
Sinn Fein thinks preparations need to be made for a poll on Irish unity 'in the next decade'.
Deputy Kenny says Irish unity isn't far away:
'There's very little information or history taught in England around any of that.
But at the same time, I think the poll reflects the general trend that we see everywhere that Irish Unity is a happening thing and is something that's moving and we're getting closer everyday
While this poll is interesting, the people of Britain will have no say in the matter.'
