Irish Water is asking people in several areas of Longford to check water pipes at their premises or homes for leaks.
It follows the imposition of night time restrictions in several areas of the county last night.
The restrictions which run from 11pm till half past six in the morning are aimed at trying to conserve water supplies following major increases in demand after last week's frozen temperatures.
The increase in demand is put down to pipes that burst during the freeze and are now leaking water through the system and putting reservoirs under pressure.
John Gavin from Irish Water says they will monitor each area on a daily basis but some restrictions may remain until the end of this week.
He asking that people check premises and land for leaking pipes in the meantime.
"A lot of water mains burst when metal fittings get cold and freeze the water inside a lot of the water mains and in a lot of domestic and agricultural fittings as well. When water freezes, it expands and when it thaws it can leave leaks behind, or burst mains, and when water flows, it flows out of the leaks left behind and we end up with increased demand".
