The national animal welfare charity, which is headquartered in Longford, is seeking to tackle overpopulation of cats and dogs.

Pet owners in the Shannonside Region are being urged to spay or neuter their pets this summer. The ISPCA have launched their annual 'Stop The Suffering' Campaign in Longford, Roscommon and Leitrim. The national animal welfare charity, which is headquartered in Longford, is seeking to tackle overpopulation of cats and dogs as the summer breeding season continues.

The ISPCA along with regional and local rescues are currently inundated with surrenders and reports of abandoned animals. Speaking to Shannonside FM News, ISPCA CEO, Dr Cyril Sullivan says that it is not just an over population issue when it comes to spaying and neutering. According to veterinary experts, spaying and neutering can help animals live longer, reduce aggression and lessen the risk of certain cancers.
