The households are experiencing major issues for the last number of weeks

A Leitrim woman has described ongoing water outages in her community due to pressure issues as a "nightmare".

Several households in the Drumgownagh and Mullnavannoge areas of Gortletteragh have been affected by water outages which began around two monthsago which leaves their taps without supply from 4pm until 7am each day.

This week the Ballinamore M.D heard that a solution to the low pressure was being brought before Irish Water and funding will be required to build a pipleine to connect the homes to the upper network in Corraleehan.

Tara Landers says the loss of supply makes doing everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning almost impossible:

"The last seven weeks, half-three-in-the-day, there is no water and nothing comes in until about 7:30 the next morning

So it's impossible, especially when you are trying to go to work. You get up in the morning, no water. You come home in the afternoon, no water.

You're buying bottles of water to just even try cooking the dinner; it's a nightmare

Irish Water claims that it is working in the area to identify and repair leaks and customers are experiencing a loss in water pressure due to a leakage issue.

They have confirmed a significant leak has been repaired and crews are on-site continuing to seek and fix others in order to resolve the pressure issues and safeguard the supply.

A motion at this month's meeting of the Ballinamore M.D highlighted the issue - and according to Leitrim County Council a solution to the low water pressure in the area has been identified and a business case proposal has been sent to Irish Water to approve funding to construct a pipeline to interconnect this area to the upper network in Cooraleehan to provide adequate pressure.

Councillor Brendan Barry spoke to Tommy Stenson about his reaction to the Council response and the water issues in the area:
