It's hoped that a major new caravan park being developed in south Longford could be open by the end of this summer.
The owner of Newcastle House, Hong Kong businessman Hau Yan Lee, has lodged an application to develop a holiday park with 99 static mobile homes as well as an area for 'touring pitches' and casual camping spaces
According to the application lodged with Longford County Council and which is in pre-validation, a reception hut will also be developed beside the existing entrance, and the plans include a proposal to build a playground and separate grass play area.
A decision on the planning application is expected in early June.
The development is likely to cost upward of €25million to construct, but the managing director of Newcastle House Richard Heighton is hopeful the project can get off the ground quickly
"We'd certainly like to think that if everything ent ahead we could caravan and camping on the site by the back end of the summer. Most of the caravan camping is fairly ready to go. It's only a bare basic set-up.
People don't want a huge amount they just want the electricity they only want, you are looking for a camp so you don't need to put massive amounts of concrete down everywhere to put a tent."
