80 jobs are under threat at B. Braun Ireland in County Sligo.
The company's told workers at its woundcare manufacturing site in Collooney today about a proposal to close the site on a phased basis, over the next year and a half.
It's been in Ireland for over 40 years operating production and healthcare facilities at six locations in Dublin, Wexford, Portlaoise, Galway, Longford and Sligo.
The Longford B Braun facility was established in 2008 and produces intravenous nutrition products for use in Irish hospitals and for patients who may be in their own homes.
It says the proposed closure is necessary because the volume of production available to the site is too low to make the plant viable any longer.
It's understood the company has confirmed that no other B Braun sites in Ireland are included in todays announcement.
