Longford's Fianna Fail Convention has confirmed sitting TD Joe Flaherty as their candidate for the upcoming General Election.
In an uncontested process at the Longford Arms Hotel last night, Deputy Flaherty was formally adopted as one of two Fianna Fail candidates in the Longford/Westmeath constituency.
The sitting TD was the only name on the list after Councillor Martin Monaghan withdrew his name following his nomination.
The Longford TDs running partner, Deputy Robert Troy was also in attendance and addressed the gathered delegates, alongside Senator Eugene Murphy who chaired the meeting.
In his speech following his official selection, The Fianna Fail TD stated that it was vital for the country to see Fianna Fail returned to Government in the next election.
