Tributes continue to be paid to a former Roscommon TD, Senator and councillor who passed away at the weekend. John Connor died following a single vehicle crash in Frenchpark on Saturday Afternoon. John Connor rose to prominence in the late 70s and early 80s, serving as a Fine Gael TD, Senator and Councillor in Roscommon. He remained in politics at local and national level until his retirement in 2009.
The Taoiseach has described him as a man with an unwavering commitment to the people of his area, and who brought a considerable expertise to politics at local and national levels. Leo Varadkar paid tribute to John Connor's work in inspiring and guiding younger colleagues at all levels. Local representatives have been praising the late Roscommon man, with Senator Eugene Murphy describing him as a great orator and good company. Past County Council colleagues have also been remembering the former Councillor and chair of Roscommon County Council today. John Connor will repose in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Frenchpark on Wednesday from five o'clock until half past seven, with funeral mass on Thursday at 11.30 in St. Asicus' Church.
