A book of condolences opened at Roscommon County Council’s headquarters at 11 o’clock this morning and several people have signed it over the past two hours.

His funeral Mass will take on Thursday in St Brigid's Church, Drum, at 11 o'clock, followed by burial in Drum Cemetery. 

John was one of two Fine Gael councillors in south Roscommon.

Deputy Fitzmaurice says John had "a real passion for doing good in his community.

Minister Helen Mc Entee has paid Tribute to Roscommon Fine Gael councillor John Naughten following his death.

His body was found at his house in Drum, Athlone, yesterday evening, and his death is being treated as a personal tragedy.

He was a caring father, brother, son and husband.

Cllr Sean Moylan said John was a great man and a great colleague.
