Local councillors looked back on what was a sombre day in Roscommon as Athlone Municipal District met for the first time since John Naughten's death. The 50-year-old was laid to rest earlier this month after he was found dead at his home in Drum. Both councillors and local authority staff paid moving tributes to the south Roscommon man at today's meeting.
The former councillor had a joint motion with Cllr Domnick Connolly up for discussion at today's MD meeting in relation to road safety works. Independent Councillor Laurence Fallon said the motion was agreed by all those present. Speaking to Shannonside News, he said it was a tough first day back for members:
