The Junior Transport Minister has committed to ensuring the Carrick-on-Shannon bypass progresses - so its economy can grow further. The project is currently at design stage and a 5.8km route has been selected, going from the Dublin Road to the Boyle Road.
It's hoped the upgrade will go to planning next January and will open in 2030. Minister of State for Transport, Jack Chambers, says he wants to see the project go ahead as planned:
