The Minister for Justice is in Athlone this morning to officially open the new extension to the town’s Garda station.
Works on the upgrade to the facility got underway in 2019 but were significantly delayed due to the Covid pandemic and were only compleated earlier this year.
The premises in Barrack Street has been extended with additional office and cell space being provided for Gardaí.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and OPW Minister Patrick O’Donovan are also expected to attend the ceremony which got underway in the last hour.(10am)
