Celebrations are being planned for next Saturday night in Keadue to mark the village's success in the Entente Florale competition.
The north Roscommon village took the top award in the European competition held in Hungary at the weekend. The event is judged on a wide range of factors including planning and development of the area, landscaping, local effort and involvement, and environmental education.
Keadue has already won National Tidy Towns Awards twice in 1993 and 2003, as well as taking a silver medal in the Entente Florale in 2003. Padraig Noone says they are thrilled with this latest achievement and hope it will bring even more visitors to the area…
"We were delighted at the time but winning a gold medal is the top award so we are absolutely over the moon. You will get an awful lot of people and the fact the castle is here beside us an awful lot of people visit and we hope to have more people now."
