McManus beat Councillor Thomas Healy in a vote for the Sligo nomination, while Kenny was selected unopposed as the Leitrim candidate.

Martin Kenny and former MEP Chris McManus will represent Sinn Fein in the general election in Sligo-Leitrim.

They were chosen at a selection convention in the Sligo Park Hotel last night.

McManus beat Councillor Thomas Healy in a vote for the Sligo nomination, while Kenny was selected unopposed as the Leitrim candidate.

Kenny has his sights set on a cabinet position after eight years as an opposition TD.
