Stephen Kenny’s Ireland side will face Portugal, Serbia, Luxemborg and Azerbaijan in their bid to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Kenny is yet to record a victory as Ireland manager and he will begin his first World Cup qualifying campaign with fixtures set to get underway on March 25th.
Ireland last faced Portugal in qualifying for the 2002 World Cup, where Ireland finished in second place behind Portugal and qualified via a play-off.
Serbia last met Ireland in the 2018 qualifiers pipping Ireland to top the group and qualify directly for the World Cup. Ireland last faced Luxemborg 34-years ago in the Euro 88 qualifiers.
Ireland have never met Azerbaijan in a competitive game, with Stephen Kenny’s side facing a long trip to Baku, which has a four-hour time difference to Dublin.
Ireland’s fixture list will be decided later, with just the top team progressing to the 2022 World Cup. The ten best group runners-up and the two best non-qualified Nations league teams make up the play-off draw.
