A schedule of work for repairs to the swimming pool at the EROC centre in Ballaghaderreen is due to be submitted to the Department later this week.
Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane called for the re-opening of the amenity a number of months ago, and it's understood the owners have now carried out an assessment of the facility.
In an update provided to the local representative it stated the necessary repairs and materials have been identified and an expected opening date is expected to be given to the Department of Equality this week. Deputy Kerrane says it's positive news and a step in the right direction.
''The owners are now moving to prepare a work schedule for the repairs needed along with an expected re-opening date. It's a really important amenity for the town and my job is to make sure when it does re-open and that part is good news but that it re-open that it's a like for like of what it was previously and that's really important. My work hasn't finished, this is an update and I want to keep the public updated but I will keep working on this until it's re-opened.''
