Plans for the redevelopment of the old Garda station building in Keshcarrigan in Leitrim include a community centre, museum and remote working areas.
Almost €90,000 has been allocated under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme in recent days for the first phase of the project in the building.
It's been vacant since 2013 and local resident and businessman Des Foley says people have been anxious not to let it fall into disrepair and to find a new purpose for it.
He says providing a place for the local community to meet will form an important part of the plans, as will remote working facilities.
