Lack of Carrick-based councillor 'very disappointing'

Finola Armstrong McGuire runs a business in the town and was a Fine Gael councillor for 10 years, but quit politics last month.

Concern is being expressed about the fact no councillor based in the town of Carrick-on-Shannon was elected in the local elections.

None of the six councillors elected in the Carrick local electoral area live or work in the town centre - although Sinn Fein councillor Cormac Flynn lives in Kilnagross.

A member of the town's chamber of commerce, Sharon Garland, who unsuccessfully contested the election, says that's very disappointing.
