There's disappointment in Lanesboro/Ballyleague with the ESB's announcement on plans for the sites of the former power station.
The semi-state company today outlined that it is to proceed to demolish both Lough Ree Power station and also the station in Shannonbridge with both sites to be developed as renewable energy centres.
The proposed technology includes synchronous condensers which are used to regulate voltage on long transition lines, and energy storage capabilities.
The company says it will explore how other buildings on the sites could be handed over for use by community groups.
Local businessman and member of the local collaboration group, Joe O' Brien says it's disappointing that the plans will not create any long-term jobs.
