Roscommon TD Michael Fitzmaurice is welcoming the reinstating of an exemption for farmers to burn bushes, but says a better arrangement is needed for the future.
He was commenting following widespread concern that farmers would not legally be allowed to burn green waste this year because a yearly exemption for the sector hadn't been signed off for 2022.
Deputy Fitzmaurice says the matter needs to be put on a more permanent footing than an annual exemption.
He's also concerned that it appears Minister Eamon Ryan is looking for an alternative to burning, like mulching, which isn't feasible or practical.
