Leitrim is the only county in the country not to have a dedicated Catholic ethos secondary school.
New figures from the CSO show that there were 25 post primary schools in Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon as of last year.
Secondary Schools in the Shannonside region catered for close to 12 thousand students last year across 25 individual schools.
The majority of students in the region are being educated at Catholic ethos secondary schools, with 6,591 students enrolled locally at 9 separate schools in Roscommon and Longford.
Multi-denominational schools accounted for the next highest level of students with 10 schools educating a total of 3,522 students last year.
While Inter-denominational schools, which are schools that have a combined Catholic and Protestant ethos, saw 2,893 students enrolled as of 2023.
Leitrim is the only county nationally that does not have a dedicated Catholic Ethos school according to the CSO, with the counties students educated at five multi-denominational schools and two inter-denominational schools.
Nationally, there are 727 second level schools in the country as of last year, catering for close to half a million students.
