Close to 30 thousand commercial property units are lying empty across the country, the highest number recorded in nine years.
The figures recorded by GeoDirectory show there were 29 thousand 317 vacant commercial units in the last quarter of 2021.
Sligo has the highest vacancy rate at 20 per cent followed by Leitrim and Roscommon, both 17 point one per cent.
Ballybofey in Co. Donegal was the town with the highest commercial vacancy rate at 30 per cent.
CEO of GeoDirectory Dara Keogh said it is possible the trend will continue in the retail sector.
