A Leitrim centre which provides supports for adults with intellectual disabilities has been praised by health inspectors
Cairdeas provides 24 hour support at a bungalow premises on the outskirts of a town in the county.
An announced inspection of the facility took place on the 19th of May and the HSE was given four weeks' notice.
Inspectors noted that residents 'had a good quality of life in this centre and were supported to be active participants in the running of the centre and in their local community.'
As part of the inspection, questionnaires were filled out by residents who indicated that that they were happy with the service in the centre.
Inspectors also reported good governance and oversight but 'some improvement was required in relation to staff training such as food hygiene and manual handling'.
Good practice in relation to infection prevention and control was observed during the inspection and out of 16 areas inspected, 15 were compliant and one was substantially compliant.
Responding to the report, the management confirmed that additional training would be provided for staff including Human Rights Based Approach to health and social care Training online which was due to be completed by the end of June.
