The Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council is reassuring businesses and residents in Carrick on Shannon that that all enhancement works will be complete in the shortest possible timeframe from here on.
Even taking into account the delays by Covid 19 restrictions earlier this year, the street scape and footpath works which were to be finished by December, will not be now complete until July 2021.
Councillors were informed last week that the delays were linked to the work being more difficult than planned and due to quarries being shut there was also a difficulty in sourcing a supply of materials.
Chief Executive Lar Power says he has left the contractor in no doubt about his frustration about the delays to the project.
The work on footpaths from Dunnes bar through to the Bush hotel will completed by the end of November and open to traffic by December with a schedule for the remainder of the overall contract.
Mr Power says they are obliged to honor the contract as agreed but the local authority will be ensuring there are no further hold ups to the new agreement.
