Children with additional needs in Leitrim have been left without specialist services for the last six months.
That's according to Sinn Fein Councillor Brendan Barry who's now calling on the Minister for Children to provide funding to families to access private therapists.
While monies for the creation of a Children's Disability Network in the county was allocated in July 2021 some positions have yet to be filled.
Councillor Barry believes this is due to some workers leaving the public sector because of extreme pressure as well as the transferring of the early years and school intervention teams to other areas of care.
The Drumshanbo native whose son is currently on a waiting list says children across the county deserve better.
''Government and he has failed to encourage people and say progress and have a proper service in place so that the tarp is working, and that the children get the full service that they need, especially children who need extra help to reach their full potential and need to be at no help as soon as possible or else they're just not going to reach their full potential.''
