A Leitrim energy contractor says he's afraid new regulations about attic and wall insulation will mean some people won't be able to afford to have it done.
The grant aid to get attic and wall insulation carried out rose to 80% earlier this year and householders were able to pay a small amount upfront and let the contractor claim the rest of the grant from the Sustainable Energy Authority.
Due to new restrictions on energy credit payments to contractors though, Donal Quinn from Leitrim Warner homes says it will be much less attractive from the 1st of December for the companies to fund the upfront cost of the works.
Speaking on the Lets Talk show this afternoon the Leitrim contractor says low income households don't have the €3,000 or €4,000 euro to hand to pay for the work and many may have to pull out of plans to have their homes made warmer
"I'm doing this 14 or 15 years, and we've never seen the kind of demand that we have this year. We've been giving quotes, and we have the guts of 100 quotes out there waiting for people who are wanting to get insulation done. If this changes come the 1st of December, I'm going to have to send them a letter saying, sorry we can't do that and you're going to have to apply for the grant yourself".
