The Environmental Awareness Officer with Leitrim Council says they hope takeaway businesses will co-operate with proposed bye-laws about packaging.
Sinead Ni Thiarnain says litter has become a major issue again during the pandemic with more and more complaints about fly-tipping from members of the public who were spending more time walking and cycling.
She says the council has re-invigorated bye-laws first brought in in 2005 and wants to implement them again as a result of increased outdoor activity in terms of eating and drinking.
Food businesses in the county providing take-away will have to print their name on packaging or wrapping under the proposed new bye-laws.
Sinead Ni Thiarnain says putting names of business on the wrappers helps to make everyone involved more aware of their responsibilities when it comes to litter.
