A Leitrim Councillor believes e-scooter users across the region must obey the rules of the road.
Finola Armstrong Maguire says the electric or battery operated scooters are becoming increasingly popular in local towns.
However, she feels some users speed and travel contra to the traffic flow.
A meeting of the Joint Policing Committee for Leitrim heard this week that the scooters are defined as an MPV and those operating the powered personal transportation must have a license.
The Fine Gael representative is calling for those operating e-scooters to read the Road Safety Authority's guidelines.
"It's the speed of them and the darkness of them I notice going around and you're not expecting them to come behind you maybe on a footpath or against the traffic. They just seem to cross over and back on the road as well so I'm just not comfortable that they're out there and there doesn't seem to guidelines for people who are on them. Read the Road Safety Authority Guidelines that are there for us all to read".
