A Leitrim Councillor is calling for a member of the local authority's outdoor staff to be placed in Drumshanbo at least three days a week.
Enda McGloin's call comes following recent flash flooding in the town due to the building up of leaves and grass in storm drains.
The Fine Gael representative believes this could have been prevented with outdoor staff monitoring the drains.
In response to his call, Leitrim County Council say they will consider assigning staff in Drumshanbo once the outdoor structure has been finalised, which is currently under review.
Councillor McGloin says the member would also deal with litter and other service issues.
''Over the last number of years Leitrim County Council had placed a member the outdoor staff in Drumshanbo. And then in recent months, I noticed that there wasn't somebody there. I think if there was a member of staff placed in Drumshanbo, as I suggested in my motion, three days a week and I think that would assist in terms of keeping a lot of these issues dealt with. And I understand from what the engineer told me today at that today's meeting, that that's been currently locked.''
During a meeting of the Ballinamore MD this week Councillor Brendan Barry raised a similar motion calling for resources to be put in place to keep the town tidy and clean particularly after long weekends and festivals.
