A Leitrim councillor is calling on the local authority to investigate the possibility of developing a 'rainy day' fund to deal with unexpected emergencies.
Enda Stenson believes a special fund would help assist in weather or road emergencies, rather than the Council seeking special funding from the government to tackle issues such as the structural support work required in Mohill or recent flood damage in Ballinaglera.
A senior council engineer told the October meeting of the Carrick-on-Shannon M.D that the local authority had never failed to address emergency issues and that a special fund may not be necessary as the budget for local roads each year was a type of 'rainy day fund' in of itself.
The Independent councillor feels a special fund would be useful for the Council.
