A Leitrim Councillor is calling on Irish Water and the local authority to install a Waste Water Treatment Plant in Kilclare.
Councillor Des Guckian believes over 60 houses in the area should be serviced by a sewerage system or by one that would be connected by gravity flow to the nearest network.
However, Council officials informed this month's Municipal District meeting that there's no funding from the Department to serve a cluster of houses in a rural setting.
They say the nearest network to Kilclare is in Leitrim village and this is too far and too costly for consideration.
The Annaduff native received full support from fellow councillors and a letter will now be sent to the Department regarding the possibility of a plant.
''It's very important that Kilclare should be serviced by sewerage system, its the only one of its size that isn't serviced at the moment. I was glad to see that the other councillors came in and supported me. And we united and we are asking Irish water and the council to provide such services for not only to Kilclare but for other small community groups that need one. ''
