A Leitrim Councillor is calling on Irish Water to urgently reinstate local road surfaces following water repair works over 12 months ago.
Fenagh based Councillor Caillian Ellis says the condition of the roads between Fenagh and Keshcarrigan (R209) and Gorvagh to Mohill (R202) cannot be left in the condition they are in any longer.
A meeting of Ballinamore MD heard that Irish Water has a Donegal based contractor engaged to do the work, but because of Covid-19 they were unable to complete it.
Responding to Cllr Ellis' motion, Leitrim County Council Director of Service for Finance Vincent Dwyer said their hands are tied because there is a nationally agreed process in place for these repairs and if the council went ahead and re-instated the roads themselves, they would not be able to draw down finance to cover it.
