A local councillor says it's almost certain that Carrick-on-Shannon Post Office will now close. It comes following the resignation of current postmistress Ann Gormley following a number of years in the role. An Post says her resignation will not disrupt the service going forward, but there are fears the office itself will be forced to move. Independent Councillor Des Guckian had previously called on An Post to make their plans for the service known.
Applications for the Carrick contract will close this Friday afternoon. An Post has said candidates who co-locate the post office with a compatible business will be preferred. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Guckian called on An Post to donate the site to Leitrim County Council:
